Anti-Resolutions for the Bearded Man
We are in the midst of December and 2020 is almost gone. What a weird year, huh? Who would have thought that barbers would be inaccessible and there would be a debate about shaving off beards for personal safety? Despite all the ups and downs that we have experienced, we look forward to 2021 with hope and a list of don’ts or, as we would like to call it, ‘Anti-Resolutions’ for the bearded man.
Playing it Safe
If there is anything that 2020 has taught us, it is that most of us can manage our own grooming – even if we are somewhat lazy about it sometimes. So, let us chalk 2021 to experimentation and having fun. Life is too short to play it safe, so why not go all out? It is just hair. If you make a mistake, the hair will grow out.
Worrying about what people will say
Often, our life and styling choices are dictated by fear of what people around us say. Our advice is to adopt a style that you feel most comfortable with; once you groom yourself as per your wishes, you will find your confidence skyrocket.
Paying Little Attention to the products you put on your face
There is nothing wrong with a little vanity when it comes to your looks. Rather than buying whatever is available to you, research products and invest in quality ones. Your beard will thank you for it, and your appearance will reflect it. Remember, when you look good, you feel good.
Practicing Patience
If you love beards but are reluctant to grow it because of the itch and the maintenance requirements, we suggest you practice patience. The good news is that beard itch is just a phase, and maintenance will feel like a breeze if you slowly and gradually incorporate it into your routine. Gentsscape has an array of products that will put your grooming worries to rest. We also have plenty of expert beard-care advice on our blog that you can look through for your guidance.
Mistreating your Grooming Tools
Most men cannot remember the last time they sterilized their grooming tools, and this unhealthy habit has only exacerbated during the pandemic. Staying home does not mean you say goodbye to personal hygiene. Not cleaning your grooming tools means that they become a haven for bacteria, and using such infected tools harms your skin. You will experience breakouts, and who wants that? 2021: New Year, new choices - Clean up.
Practice Moderation
While we understand the excitement that comes with growing a beard and seeing the results – do not get too excited. Some of us over wash, rub, tug, and pick on our beards to the extent that it causes beard hair to dry out and break off. Give your beard a break and treat it like you would treat your significant other – with care but without being clingy.
We hope this blog has provided you with some encouragement to extract yourself from your comfort zone and practice healthy habits starting. Start early so that you enter 2021 with a dapper mindset.
